What Atlanta Homeowners Can Do To Prevent Mosquitoes Around Their Yards

We get a lot of questions about mosquito control in Atlanta. It makes sense; we specialize in it. The question we get most is: "How do I keep mosquitoes out of my yard?" What do our on-staff mosquito experts say about how to keep mosquitoes away? You might be surprised. The best way to deal with mosquitoes is not to keep them away but to target them when they come into your yard. Would you like to keep mosquitoes out of your yard and get rid of mosquitoes indoors? We're going to share our secrets with you today. If you urgently need Atlanta mosquito control, you don't have to read this article to get help. You can quickly navigate to our contact page for immediate care. But, if you're looking to understand how mosquito control works, read on.

The Life Cycle Of The Common Mosquito

While there are many ways to repel mosquitoes, none of them will rid your yard of mosquitoes. You can't deter mosquitoes easily. Why? Because the mosquitoes that bite you (namely the females) do so for reproduction. They're not looking for a snack. If female mosquitoes don't get a blood meal, they can't create eggs and make more mosquitoes. They take that job seriously. So don't think for a second that your torches, candles, or firepit smoke will keep them away. You need to strike at them where it will have the most significant impact. For this, you need to understand the life cycle of the common mosquito.

  • It begins with baby mosquitoes in water. One female mosquito can lay a hundred eggs at a time. These eggs hatch and little wiggly mosquito larvae come out.
  • The mosquito larvae grow into pupae (called tumblers). They're still bound to the water at this stage and can't take to the air.
  • Pupae turn into adults and take flight from the water source. They can do this in large numbers all at once.

It takes about nine days for mosquitoes to develop from eggs to adults. If you disrupt this development, you can stop mosquitoes before they become a swarm of biting pests in your yard.

Why Choose Tuxedo Mosquito Control?

Mosquito Bites Can Be Worse Than Just Itchy

Before we discuss how you can take what you've learned so far and use this knowledge in natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes, let's consider why it is essential. Natural mosquito control isn't easy. But, if you know some of the many diseases you can get from mosquitoes, you might be motivated.

You likely know mosquitoes can make you sick. But we are willing to bet that some of these facts will surprise you.

  • Mosquitoes are responsible for the spread of heartworm. You should be aware of this threat if you have a dog.
  • Mosquito-related sickness is commonly mistaken for the flu or the common cold. People get sick every year from mosquito bites and don't realize it.
  • The most common mosquito-borne diseases in the United States are associated with encephalitis, a fancy word for brain swelling. Mosquitoes could be to blame if you get sick and you have a headache.
  • Mosquito diseases endemic to the United States rarely lead to death, but we are not without casualties. Hundreds in the U.S. die each year from mosquito-related sickness.
  • Dangerous mosquito diseases, such as malaria, yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus, can threaten U.S. residents during outbreaks, and outbreaks can occur anytime.

Mosquito control is mostly for preventing annoying bites, but as you can see, it also provides essential protection. Keep this in mind as your read.
